Images in LOW resolution

Hello,
I’m user of the phpalbum software
http://vmichal.praslavice.net/main.php?cmd=album

My problem is following: The sizing of the image (top on the right) as original, middle and small works well.
However, the compression setting seems to be limited to a certain value. It means that e.g. photo shown in “original” mode has not very low resolution. I tried all possible quality setting coefficients (0, 90, 100 etc), but the resolution is still low compared to the original photo. I added new resolution setting 1400x1050SCREEN which suits better to my screen at work. However, as you can see, the quality is Very bad (you can try “download original image to see that original file is OK.
I like this soft, but this is something limiting.. Please help me to make me happy :)

Thx, Vratislav

Hi, very nice Photos you

Hi,

very nice Photos you have there ;)

Now to your problem. Actually, I do not understand what you mean under resolution? "download original image" links is no more there. So I can not compare.

I think, what you mean is, that the pictures are not that sharp as they would be resized in Photoshop? Sharpening is only implemented for thumbnails, because it eats quite the CPU on Server, and it was quite bad implemented on PHP4.3. But may be it is now better on PHP5 so I cann look if I could put a option for sharpening on resized pictures, it would be quite a big step to pro looking pictures. Is this what you mean?

Hello, Thanks for your quick

Hello,

Thanks for your quick response. I added the option “download orig file” , so you can compare it.

What I speak about is the JPEG compression, what the FTP server does before sending you the JPG file.

In the menu thumbnails, there are boxes: Photo size/Quality.
As I noted, the photo size parameter works well.
But the box quality seems to have “limited effect”.

I imagined, that if you set 99 for instance, the quality of the displayed image will be close to the original file. But this is no case.

You can look for instance on original view
http://vmichal.praslavice.net/main.php?cmd=setquality&var1=1&var2=imageview&var3=2011_10_15-Hike-Oisans-Le-Rochail-3022m_Danse%2F19-Hike-in-Oisans-Plateau-dEmparis.JPG

and compare it to original file
http://vmichal.praslavice.net/main.php?cmd=imageorig&var1=2011_10_15-Hike-Oisans-Le-Rochail-3022m_Danse%2F19-Hike-in-Oisans-Plateau-dEmparis.JPG
the setting of the photo size/Quality is 0 / 99

I also noticed that if you do “save picture as” (left click on the image etc.) from the Internet explorer on the picture from the first link, the saved .JPG is only 83kb and has 800x600 pixels dimensions and not the original 2048x1536. If you do the same thing on the middle, or small view, the size and dimension of the saved files are the same.

So I thing, that only one JPG is generated by the server and resized by the IE to the required size.

I hope that I’m more clear now, but don’t hesitate to contact me,

Thanks,

Vratislav

Ok, now I understand what is

Ok, now I understand what is your problem.

It is a little bug in phpAlbum, if you change some settings on image size it can happen that the cache does not work properly. Try to delete you cache in phpAlbum and in Browser. It should be OK then. The problem is that if you now look at original pictures, at least the one you put here, the picture which is displayed is much smaller, you can try to right mouse click and display the image you will see. This smaller picture (which is cached) is than vie Browser stretched to the size of the original picture.

Hope this will help.

Just try to look at pictures you never displayed in phpAlbum, you will see they are ok, just delete cache in phpAlbum setup.
