Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 685768704) (tried to allocate 1966080 bytes)

I have been using phpAlbum for my businesses photo gallery for quite some time now and every now and then I've run into a "Fatal error: Out of memory" error when scanning directories for new pictures. Each time I've increased my php memory limit in my php.ini file and it has alleviated the problem. But now it seems it's not helping. I have upped my memory limit to a massive 2048MB and I still get the following error:

Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 685768704) (tried to allocate 1966080 bytes) in /home/woodenbo/public_html/phpAlbum/data_3be46539/album_directory.php on line 4728

I've even tried adding "ini_set('memory_limit', '2048M');" in main.php as another user on this forum had done but that also doesn't help.

I'm at a loss of what to do to fix this, I also noticed the error is saying I have 685MB allocated (not the 2GB I set) so I'm guessing this is a limitation imposed by my webhost (Jumba). There is a total of 2988 photos in my album and I don't understand how listing them can use up over 685 MB.

Is this a memory leak in phpAlbum and is there a way to fix this?
