upgrade of older version - directory passwords

Hi

I'm in the process of upgrading an older version, but I don't know which version, to the most recent version. One requirement is that individual directories can have restricted access based upon a password. In the older version this is apparently possible, but in the latest/last version, this isn't there any more (or is it? but where?)

The reason I need this is that the number of users is very large and the level of security is minimal, but there needs to be a small barrier to entry for certain directories.
(consider different groups of a day-care centre for pre-school children, each group has a private area, only accessible to the parents. This group varies a lot, the password doesn't change often)

Is this easy to add or bring back in the newer version?

I'm not fluent in php, but given the right amount of hints, I may be able to manage this fix myself ;-)

Cheers

Simon

PS, the structure is like this:
main
main/groups
main/groups/group1
main/groups/group1/private/x
main/groups/group1/private/y
main/groups/group2
main/groups/group2/private/a
main/groups/group2/private/b

all is publicly viewable, but under private in any directory, a password should be entered to get access. The password is all that "identifies" an authorised user.

kind of fixed this myself

Hi

If anyone is interested, I hacked the main.php to do http style authentication based on the path currently viewed (if it contains a configured name, like "private") it will ask for authentication to the http realm.

I'm not particularly proud of the code, but it seems to work. I can provide the code on request.

Cheers

Simon
