Increasing user friendliness of forum (search and overview)

I'm new and I don't know if this is the right place to post my topic (I also hope I'm not reposting). Please feel free to move it if it's not!

Wouldn't it be more convenient to have the forum opened in a new window without being restricted by the two columns on the left and the right? To me it's hard to get a proper survey/overview (it would at least decrease the number of pages in all categories).

Also searching the the forum doesn't help very much. Can't specify my search: search within a category/topics, search within headers or within posts. I guess this will cause doubleposts and people not finding their answers. It's just unattractive to use.

And why is search standarly selecting a search within google? Who would want that on the phpalbum forum? Also the outcome of the search doesn't tell me much. Just 10 hits on a page with urls and no specification of category.

Just some feedback to help to improve one of the best photo album scripts on the web!

Just one question to you.

Just one question to you. Why do you post your question 3 times?

And as an answer to your questions:
Perhaps Patrik has written the total site by himself and didn't want to use pre-written scripts by other people. He could have used phpBB as forum, but now he can change things much easier I think.

Cause I always post my questions 3 times?? Seriously, I don't know. Perhaps someone could tell me why my questions have been posted three times. Anyway, sorry about that.

I'm sure there is a plausible explanation/reason for him to have his forum this way. And obviously nobody needs to account for it (or anything). To me it doesn't matter whether it's self-programmed (however phpBB is fully editable) or not. That's all fine. And why wouldn't he be able to fix that with self-made scripts? He seems handy and clever enough :). No offence, I'm just suggesting (of course not demanding).

I am just looking at the practical site of it, what I think a forum is used for. What do you think?

Hi sideshowbob, thanks for

Hi sideshowbob,

thanks for your suggestions:) really, I appreciate any suggestions or thoughts regarding phpAlbum.

For the whole site of phpAlbum I use CMS known as Drupal. You can find it on www.drupal.org
It is a very good piece of software. Anyway, I tested the search functionality of it several times with every version upgrade and it is quite bad. That is why I use google for this. All sites are very good indexed on google so you should not have problem to find anything if it is here.

And I will think about the restricted width of this site and test some other solutions. May be stretching it to 100% or disabling the right side-panel for forum sites would be better. I'll see.

Hi Patrik, It's good to see how you deal with feedback! Couldn't find a thumbs up smiley:) I see you have enlarged the forum field, by including the right column as well. Much better!
