Sub Directories question

Hello,

Very cool Alum, very nice work, excellent product. Can' believe you actually give it away. People like you are a great asset to idiots like me.

I do have one question, about sub directories.

I collect Historical photographs that I want to display. I have several areas of my home state plus other areas as well. I want to set up the album to have main directories, such as:

Northern NY
Central NY
Western NY
Other Places
Automobiles
Mining Operations
etc
etc

Inside these directories I would like to be able to have sub directories, inside the sub directories are the images, such as:

(directory)Northern NY:
(sub)Canton
(images)
(sub)Potsdam
(images)
(sub)Hermon
(images)
(sub)etc
(images)
(sub)etc
(images)

(directory)Central NY:
(sub)Lowville
(images)
(sub)Utica
(images)
(sub)Port Lyden
(images)
(sub)etc
(images)
(sub)etc
(images)

(directory)Western NY:
(sub)Buffalo
(images)
(sub)Rochester
(images)
(sub)etc
(images)
(sub)etc
(images)

(directory)Other Places:
(sub)Ohio
(images)
(sub)Indiana
(images)
(sub)Old West
(images)
(sub)etc
(images)
(sub)etc
(images)

(directory)Automobiles:
(sub)Vintage cars
(images)
(sub)Vintage trucks
(images)
(sub)etc
(images)
(sub)etc
(images)

(directory)Mining Operations:
(sub)Gold Mines
(images)
(sub)Copper Mines
(images)
(sub)Iron Mines
(images)
(sub)etc
(images)
(sub)etc
(images)

Kind of like folders on a computer, each directory has a sub directory for image storage, images are loaded from the sub directory.

I tried by just adding sub directory folder into the directory folders and then adding the images into the sub folders, but it just displayed "no pictures found" on the directories, so it seems that it can not load from sub directories.

is there a way? If so, can you explain it so a script stupid person can do it?

This is what I have so far, but many of the directories listed should actually be sub directories.

Thanks.

Bob

Hey, it should work with sub

Hey,

it should work with sub directories, no matter how deep they are. If you send me your admin password, it would be easier to check your site. It would be very interesting find that bug, as you are not alone with this as I can read now in other threads ...

Patrik

password

Patrik,

Thanks for the fast reply.

If you mean the password for the Album, I never changed it. It is the default user name and password.

If you find out the problem, let me know. Maybe I am just doing it wrong.

It sort of works. I simply added a folder named "Oswego" inside the "Western NY" Directory, then added 2 images inside the the "Oswego" folder.

The Main page of the album shows "no pictures found" and if you enter the "Western NY" directory from the album main page, there is an Album named "Oswego" listed with the 2 images displayed.

It seems I may have either worded it wrong, or else I made a mistake in uploading or scanning the directories the first time I tried it. I guess what I need to do is add an image into the "Western NY" directory to use as an front image for the main page.

Or can the directories be changed to text links?

Bob

Doesn't work with sub for me too

Hi,
If I understand the above problem correctly, I too have this problem.

e.g.
directory (say album)
subdirectory (say subalbum1)
images in subalbum1
subdirectory (say subalbum2)
images in subalbum2
directory (say photo)
images in photo
subdirectory (subphotos)
images in subphotos

when I see this album, I see "No Pictures Found" for album and a neat thumbnail for photo. If I click on the "No Pictures Found" I see the thumbnails for subalbum1 and subalbum2.

But, any visitor who sees "No Pictures Found" would not even click there.
Best option is to generate a thumbnail from an image in the subdirectory.
Please advise how this can be done.

The alternative I am using is to create a neat icon saying "Click to see subfolders". I put saved this as an image res/nopic.png. Now atleast the visitor would click to get inside the folder. (chek my site at http://tiny.cc/xYydZ)

Can you please help get the real solution.
Thanks in advance for your directions.

I also had this problem but

I also had this problem but fixed it by uploading a photo into the parent directory. Setting it as not visible and selecting use for directory logo.

This way each directory will have a photo image in the list but it wont be visible to the right side.

Hope this helps.
