not displaying images - tried all solutions here

I get broken images
I have tried the automated install, and a manual install on my server, and it still will not display images. In fact, the automated instal says "cant create directory"
I've gone ahead and installed it on several other hosting services and it works fine. Problem is, I can't keep it there.

I looked on your phpinfo Page, and you have old version of the most important Library for phpAlbum. It is the GD-Library.
You need the GD2 and you have GD1.

BTW
The only way I got it to work was to auto-install on a good server then copy all the files over to this one.
The downloaded setup never would show the GUI images. Plus, the auto-install could not create a directory on my server.
